A Brief History of FOCCL

Since it's formation in 1965, FOCCL has provided a tremendous level of support to your community's library. Thanks to substantial support of the founding FOCCL members in the form of time and talent, the Carson City Library opened its doors in June 1966. In no way did that event mark the end of the Friends' support of our community's core services. Joining the Friends gives you the opportunity to make a direct contribution to maintaining and expanding our Library as a valuable community asset it has always been providing education, enjoyment and enlightenment for current and future Carson City generations.

  • Since the time the mission statement was adopted in January 2005 we have worked hard to fulfill our mission.
  • We continue to be a sponsor of the National Library Week held annually in April, and the Summer Reading Program for youth held in June.
