Summer Learning at the Carson City Library - 2019

 

Enjoy out-of-this-world stories and prizes! The Carson City Library’s Summer Learning Challenge encourages and rewards readers of all ages while also providing fun educational programs and special events!

 

Register:

Starting June 8th, register by clicking on Register/Sign In Here or download the Beanstack app for Apple or Android. To learn how to use Beanstack, the Summer Learning Challenge tracker, visit this training module offered through Niche Academy. All reading hours must be logged into your Summer Learning Challenge online account in order to earn and receive prizes. Come to our Summer Learning Kickoff event on June 8th from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM to register, receive program information, and enjoy family friendly activities.

 

Read:

Ages 0-5

Build early reading and language skills with your child by completing fun, developmental activities.  Complete a Game Card to earn prizes, a board book, and entries into our Grand Prize Raffle!

Ages 6-11

Develop early language skills with your child by reading or listening to books.  Read a total of 20 hours to enter our Grand Prize Raffle and earn special prizes along the way!

Ages 12-17

Be prepared to succeed by reading and discussing literature.  Read a total of 30 hours to enter our Grand Prize Raffle and earn special prizes along the way!

Ages 18 and Up

Experience the joy of reading.  Read a total of 40 hours to enter our Grand Prize Raffle and earn special prizes along the way!

 

Participate in Events:

Receive additional Grand Prize Raffle entries for every event attended between June 8th and August 10th. Some events require preregistration to assist in preparation and planning. To register for an event, visit our calendar by clicking here. Find the program that you are interested in and click the program title. If registration is required, complete the appropriate fields.

 

Earn Prizes:

Join us on Saturday, August 10th from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM for the End of Summer Learning Party, where you can finish logging your hours and fill out raffle entries for the Grand Prize Raffle.

Register, Read, Participate

Summer Learning 2019 at the Carson City Library

 

Register

  • Click “Register/Sign In Here”.
    • “Register an Individual or Family”- Use this option if you did not participate in the Summer Learning Challenge last year.
    • “Already Registered on this site?” - “Sign In Here”- Use this if you participated in the Summer Learning Challenge last year. *If you forgot your password, there will be an option to reset it on the login page.*
  • To register on-site at the library:
    • Use the Summer Learning Challenge computer located near the Information desk. All patron computers also have access to the Summer Learning Challenge webpage for you to access your online account.
  • Download the Beanstack App:
    • Download the Beanstack app on your Apple or Android device. To learn how to use Beanstack, the Summer Learning Challenge tracker, visit this training module offered through Niche Academy.
       

Read

  • Log reading hours into your Summer Learning Challenge online account by clicking this link:
    • Click the red box that reads “Sign In".
    • Enter your username and password to log in.
    • Click on the red “Log Reading & Activities” button on the top left of the screen.
    • Please Note: No more than 600 minutes can be logged at a time.
    • If you are unable to log your hours off-site, visit the library to log your hours.
    • Visit the Information desk at the library to receive earned prizes. To learn what prizes you have earned, visit the ‘Rewards’ tab in your Summer Learning Challenge online account.
  • Earn additional ticket entries into the Grand Prize Raffle by completing Book Reviews. Receive an entry into our Grand Prize Raffle for each submission. No more than 5 Book Reviews can be entered. Book Reviews can be completed when logged into your Summer Learning Challenge online account.
    • Click the red box that reads “Sign In”.
    • Enter your username and password to log in.
    • Click the box that reads “Write a Review”.
    • If there are multiple readers on your account, select your name from the first drop down box.
    • Fill out the fields for Book Title, Author, Review, and click “Save”.

 

Participate in Events

  • Attend programs and events between June 8th and August 10th:
    • Regular programs such as Storytimes, Computer Classes, Lego Club, etc. DO count.
    • All Summer Learning Challenge events are noted in dark blue on our program calendar.
  • For each program and event attended, you will receive a ticket for our Grand Prize Raffle at our End of Summer Learning Challenge Party on August 10th from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

How It Works

Information on the Summer Learning Challenge by age range:

Ages 0-5

  • You will need to complete all 20 activity squares on your Game Card between June 8th and August 10th.
  • When you complete 10 activity squares on your Game Card, log your progress on your Summer Learning Challenge online account, and visit the Information desk at the library to pick up your halfway prize.
  • Once you complete all 20 activity squares, log your progress on your Summer Learning Challenge online account, and visit the Information desk at the library to pick up your completion prizes.
  • After completing the 20 activities, you can continue to participate in the Summer Learning Challenge by completing up to 40 additional activities.

 

Ages 6-11

  • You will need to read and log 20 hours between June 8th and August 10th.
  • Log the title of the book and the amount of time read.
  • For every 4 hours read, log your hours into your Summer Learning Challenge online account, and visit the Information desk at the library to receive prizes.
  • After you read 20 hours, log your hours into your Summer Learning Challenge online account, and visit the Information desk at the library to receive your completion prizes.

 

Ages 12-17

  • You will need to read and log 30 hours between June 8th and August 10th.
  • Log the title of the book and the number of minutes read.
  • For every 5 hours read, log your hours into your Summer Learning Challenge online account, and visit the Information desk at the library to receive your prizes.
  • After you read 30 hours, log your hours into your Summer Learning Challenge online account, and visit the Information desk at the library to receive your completion prizes.

 

Ages 18 and Up

  • You will need to read and log 40 hours between June 8th and August 10th.
  • Log the title of the book and the number of minutes read.
  • For every 8 hours read, log your hours into your Summer Learning Challenge online account, and visit the Information desk at the library to receive your prizes.
  • After you read 40 hours, log your hours into your Summer Learning Challenge online account, and visit the Information desk at the library to receive your completion prizes.

10 completed activity squares earns:

  • 1 Prize
  • 1 Entry into our Grand Prize Raffle on August 10th

20 completed activity squares earns:

  • 1 Prize 
  • 1 Board Book
  • 3 Entries into our Grand Prize Raffle on August 10th

Complete up to 40 additional activity squares to continue earning prizes and Grand Prize Raffle entries.

 

Ages 6-11

Every 4 hours read and logged earns:

  • 1 Prize
  • 1 Entry into our Grand Prize Raffle on August 10th

20 hours read and logged earns:

  • 1 Prize
  • 3 Entries into our Grand Prize Raffle on August 10th

 

Ages 12-17

Every 5 hours read and logged earns:

  • 1 Prize
  • 1 Entry into our Grand Prize Raffle on August 10th

30 hours read and logged earns:

  • 1 Prize
  • 3 Entries into our Grand Prize Raffle on August 10th

 

Ages 18 and Up

Every 8 hours read and logged earns:

  • 1 Prize
  • 1 Entry into our Grand Prize Raffle on August 10th

40 hours read and logged earns:

  • 1 Prize
  • 3 Entries into our Grand Prize Raffle on August 10th
 
 
Grand Prizes not picked up within two weeks of our Grand Prize Raffle on August 10th will be forfeited.

Participate in Programs

For each event and program attended between June 8th and August 10th, you will receive a ticket for our Grand Prize Raffle at our End of Summer Learning Party on August 10th from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
