National Library Week is an annual celebration generously funded by the Friends of the Carson City Library. National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA).  It is a time to celebrate the contributions of libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support. Traditionally, Carson City Library celebrates National Library Week with a variety of programming along with the culmination of Capital City Reads, a community-wide reading project.

The Carson City Library also participates in the annual Nevada Reads, an all-state-community group read, sponsored by the Nevada Center for the Book.

The library partners with the Children's Cabinet to provide a story time the third Thursday each month that promotes Kindergarten Readiness through fun educational activities that align with NV PreK Standards. This partnership promotes literacy and school readiness.

The Carson City Library has partnered with Northern Nevada Literacy Council (NNLC) for a few years to provide a Family Reading Program at the library. This partnership promotes literacy development by promoting strong literacy habits and skills. To learn more about literacy skills check out NNLC's YouTube Video Series.
